Spiritual Mom’s Corner

Eva on Jan 22nd 2008 10:18 am

The Spiritual Mom’s Corner is a new podcast for parents and grandparents seeking ways to guide children through the complicated maze of living in today’s world. Nothing is as it was 30 years ago when we were either kids or raising kids. That includes the moral and ethical decisions that children and youth face today, as they are so much more complicated by a constant stream of negative media and over the top violence. The waters are murky and cloudy enough for an adult, but for an eight year old, or a 15 year old, that water must look like pure sludge!

Host Danah Hilden is a prime example a mother who works daily to provide the guidance for her children, needed to make sound spiritual judgments. With three children and an array of spiritual, religious and cultural experiences, she strives to bring her broad vision to the show, and provide broad solutions for the “new youth” of the early part of this century.

SHOW HOST

DANAH HILDEN

Danah Hilden has a master’s degree in clinical psychology and has worked with families for over fifteen years as a counselor, researcher, and mediator. As such she has seen how many people are struggling with parenting in our increasingly complex age. She is also a divorced and happily re-married mother of three children. Raising spiritual children became her focus, especially after the birth of her last child — realizing that children are born with unique physical bodies, temperaments and souls. Although she had been a parenting educator, she realized that nothing she had learned in books quite prepared her for parenting each of her three children. Her kids are 4, 5 and 11 and each need different consequences, learn differently and are unique spirits.

It hit her that she was not alone as most of her friends struggled with parenting also. But often they did not want to discuss it as they seemed so successful in other areas of their lives.

“It is as if many young parents don’t feel comfortable taking about our parenting struggles because we all want to be good at it. I am growing in my own spirituality and I would like to join with other mothers who are doing the same so that we can collectively help our children grow spiritually. This is my motivation for partipating in the Spiritual Mom’s Corner.” Says Danah

My philosophy on raising spiritual children is being courageous enough and patient enough to spend the time to teach kids to connect to the Divine and to make decisions daily that are for the greater good of all, not just themselves. Also we must parent pro-actively not reactively. We don’t simply parent the way our parents did or the opposite if we did not like what they did…we must go out of the box and parent with insight which must grow daily. And by doing so we can live happier and our children can do the same so they can all work together to help make sure our world becomes a more positive place.”

Some of her favorite books are:

10 Principles for Spiritual Parenting by Mimi Doe

Very simple and clear but helpful.

1, 2, 3 Magic by Dr. Thomas Phelan

Clear strategies for consistent parenting.

Teen Spirit by Paul B. Raushenbush

A favorite of my oldest daughter on teaching kids about the many faiths of our one world.

It’s So Amazing by Robie H. Harris

A great book to teach children about birth babies as these can be difficult for adults to talk about.

Being a parent is one of the most wonderful jobs in the world, it is also one of the most challenging. Through our daily experiences with our children, we are tested, roughed up, shaped, and molded to be better than we were at the beginning of any given day. We are forced to look at ourselves, our thoughts, beliefs, feelings, fears, and passions for absolutely everything imaginable. When we do evaluate ourselves and allow ourselves to grow from the good and the bad, we come through like a diamond after the intense pressure and heat that breaks so many. Only the strong and most beautiful will survive. To make the pressure that all of the diamond parents are under more bearable, healing and fruitful, The Spiritual Envoy, has launched a wonderful show dedicated to helping parents and especially mothers with solutions to our parenting issues and to celebrate and share on our journey. With the objective in mind to raise all of our children to be spiritually healthy and well.

The show is “The Spiritual Moms’ Corner. You may listen at www.thespiritualenvoy.com or www.blogtalkradio.com/thespiritualenvoy.
