Mike Seymour, M.S., is Director of The Heritage Institute, a progressive program of continuing education for K-12 educators affiliated with Antioch University, Seattle— reaching teachers with over 300 workshops, field studies, foreign travel programs and distance education courses in the Northwest, around the U.S. and the world. Mike has an extensive background in human development and Jungian psychology, as well as Christian and Buddhist contemplative practices.
We will be featuring his work and book, “Educating for Humanity” in a bi-weekly show on Mondays at 1:00 pm EST. We will cover a new chapter each week, and the concepts that underlie his philosophy about education. The schedule for the next few weeks is as follows:

People who meditate grow bigger brains than those who don’t. Researchers at Harvard, Yale, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found the first evidence that meditation can alter the physical structure of our brains. Brain scans they conducted reveal that experienced meditators boasted increased thickness in parts of the brain that deal with attention and processing sensory input. Continue Reading »

The Light Bulb
We are each like a light bulb. In fact every living thing on the Earth has a light, including stones, plants, trees, animals, water, air, earth and fire. All are alive with light.
Let us say that the humans have a 500 watt light bulb, when they are clear and free of emotional baggage, drugs, alcohol, etc. they can shine at full wattage of 500. When a person has drugs in their system they may shine at say 300, or less. Some people illuminate at 2 watts and are barely participating in life, and others are moving up

Teaching Our Children About God
You know I guess I have procrastinated about blogging about this show. I really like doing the show but it also gave me some personal anxiety (Danah here). It seems to me we are all on a journey to learn and grow and as Eva says be our best spiritual selves. But this looks so different for each and every one of us. I will use myself as an example.
I was brought up by very strict Christian Reformed grandparents. This is a religion which started in Holland and as my family came to the US they brought it with them. “The great mistake of modern civilization is to encroach upon other’s property as though it were one’s own and to thereby create an unnecessary disturbance of the laws of nature. These laws are very strong. No living entity can violate them. Only one who is God conscious can easily overcome the stringency of the laws of nature and thus become happy and peaceful in the world. As a state is protected by the department of law and order, so is the state of the Universe, of which this earth is only an insignificant fragment, is protected by the laws of nature. This material nature is one of the different potencies of God, who is the ultimate protector of everything that be. This earth is, therefore, the property of God, but we, the living entities, especially the so-called civilized human beings, are claiming God’s property as our own, under both and individual and collective false conception.
